Amersham & Chiltern rugby club scored nine tries as they humbled Chelmsford by a score of 59-10 in the London and South East Division London One North.

The visitors were dominant from start to finish and led early on when Dean MacLennan’s skilful sidestep allowed him to elude the defence and go over by the posts.

Andy Fluker who scored 19 points throughout the game touched down shortly after and John Davies got in on the act with a try of his own to help Chiltern to a commanding early lead.

The inevitable bonus point was earned before half time as Joe Butler found himself in acres of space to stroll over for a simple score.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first had been played as prop Joe Winpenny added to a double score by captain Tom Grammenos.

By now every Chiltern player was looking to get on the scoresheet and prop Ziana Alexis made an audacious dummy to score under the posts.

Josh Davies scored the final try of the match and Fluker, in typical fashion, added the extras late on to keep Chiltern two points behind league leaders Brentwood in second.

In the South West One East Division Grove beat High Wycombe 17-7 in a match of closely contested margins in which Tom Clipsham proved to be the difference.

The centre opened the scoring after a fine run and pass from Sam Bond put him over in the corner before setting up Brendon White for Grove’s second.

He completed his personal highlight reel before the half-time whistle as Nick Sevier broke loose and with a well-timed pop pass put Clipsham in for his second try to make it 17-0.

With such an imposing deficit to haul back High Wycombe could have crumbled but instead they had their most impressive spell of the game and got a try back.

It was score based more on grit and power than the fast running rugby that Grove had showcased earlier in the day and saw them drive over for a try which was converted to complete the scoring.

In the Southern Counties North Division Marlow maintained their place two points behind leaders Aylesbury with a 37-20 win at Swindon College Old Boys.

It was a result that was never really in doubt and Marlow showcased their superiority over an Old Boys side who have now lost seven games in a row.

Beaconsfield enjoyed a narrow 19-17 win over a Buckingham side who have lost two on the trot in the Southern Counties North Division.

The win keeps Beaconsfield in the top four of the league, and they remain just three points behind Aylesbury and are hot on the heels of local rivals Marlow.

They could get the chance to leapfrog them into second when the two sides meet in a fortnight but will first have to focus their attention on a clash against ninth in the table Drifters this weekend.
