High Wycombe Rugby Club’s under-15 girls team (the Baby Belles) enjoyed a mixed weekend as they won one of their matches and lost the other in Newbury.

The Belles first game pitted them against the Oxford Baa Baas and a dominant display saw them run out 36-0 winners.

Lola Curtis got High Wycombe off to the perfect start as she showed excellent footwork to break through the Oxford defence and score twice in the opening stages.

The scoreboard continued to tick over as Ciara Higley ran in a try from the halfway line to touch down in the corner.

Ella Whitaker, who was awarded with the coaches player of the day, then went over twice herself as she made two excellent breaks from centre and touched down under the posts.

Wycombe were attacking at will and Elinor Green scored the try of the game as she ran from her own 22 to score a breath taking individual effort which completed the scoring.

The Belles second match of the day was far more testing and they ultimately came out on the wrong end of 10-5 scoreline against the Berkshire Baa Baas.

In a first half of tight margins Berkshire were the more clinical of the teams as they ran in two tries to leave Wycombe trailing by 10 points heading into the break.

The girls stirred themselves in the second period and showed more attacking intent while also getting rewards from their more aggressive rucking and commitment at the breakdown.

Their efforts paid off when Higley made an incisive break down the right wing and finished superbly out wide.

As Wycombe turned the screw the referee was forced into blowing the final whistle five minutes early after an injury and fading light meant the match could not continue.
