Wycombe Phoenix’s pursuit of an immediate return to Division One continued at pace this weekend as they climbed to second in the Chiltern's League Cross Country.

The impressive team performance means that they are on track to achieve their target of promotion from Division Two with just two events remaining in the season.

In foul conditions, on a course that ran across a motocross track the team coped admirably, but managers Mark Delgado and David Randall said they must remain focussed for the remainder of the campaign.

In a club statement they said: “There is still a lot of racing to be done to bounce straight back into the top division, with two more fixtures to go including a home fixture with our main rivals.”

In the under-13s race Kristin Stilwell again showed her quality as she led from start to finish to take her record to three wins from three races this season.

She was well supported by Emily Sanderson (fifth), Izzie Wijsman (seventh), Maddy Wood (17th), Ella Griffin (19th) and Charlotte Warkcup (20th) throughout the race.

Seb Garry made it two wins in a row as he followed up his triumph at Milton Keynes with a well-paced run in the under-17 men’s race.

He first held onto the leading pack and moved up slowly before overtaking the race leader on the last hill to claim top spot.

Cameron Almand made a long awaited return from injury to finish 2nd in his division while Dan Weathers, Aidan Kingman, Sammy Taylor and Miles Kingman all ran well to ensure the under-17s lead their division.

In the senior men’s team Kieran Gilfedder returned from University to finish a respectable 6th while a spirited showing across the board helped the team to a strong day of results.

Bradley Lawrence, David Clarke and Peter Finn will be particularly pleased with their performances as their finishes of 10th, 13th and 14th respectively made them the best placed runners under the age of 20.

Elsewhere, Natasha Taylor recorded a second place finish for the under-17 women and added third to that success in the under-20 race.

The under-13 boys finished third in their overall standings, a result that owed much to the work of Harvey Bell who ran a fine race to come third.

The under-15’s both had joy with the girls finishing second while the boys filled the number three spot in their event.

Finally, the under-11 boys saw Nick Kay finish third and Rollo Parry make the top 10 in ninth to secure third overall.
