Amersham & Chiltern retained their place at the top of the London One North Division with a seven try win over Letchworth Garden City on Saturday.

Chiltern were rampant and Joe Butler opened the scoring in the 49-8 win in the 16th minute.

He got his second five minutes later as he left the Letchworth defence for dead and made a 40 metre break for the line.

A smart lineout saw Tom Hangford go over which coupled with Andy Fluker’s excellent kicking made the score 27-0 at half time.

The visitors were now intent on getting a four try bonus point and they did just that shortly into the second half.

Chris Jack and Andy Zair produced an incisive break to make a 50 metre gain before releasing George Wood for a simple try.

Aaron Doyle added a fifth before Hangford produced the score of the match as the prop started and finished a flowing passing move by going over in the corner.

There was just enough time for Butler to complete his hat-trick with another individual effort in which he ran half the length of the pitch to score.

In an entertaining match High Wycombe had to accept a share of the spoils against Oxford Harlequins as the pair played out a 32-32 draw.

The result was yet more evidence of the improving quality in the Wycombe ranks that has seen them win twice and draw once in their last three matches.

Heading into the match Oxford had won four league games in a row and would have been confident of securing a win.

However, Wycombe remained resolute to earn a draw which put more daylight between themselves and the relegation zone as 13th placed Reading lost again.

Reading’s defeat came at the hands of bottom side Swanage & Wareham and leaves Wycombe a generous nine points clear of the drop zone. Elsewhere, Marlow ended a run of three games without a victory as they narrowly overcame Bletchley by a score of 17-15.

The vital win sees Marlow, who are currently seventh in the Southern Counties North Division, put a seven point gap between themselves and Bletchley who are a place below them.

In the same division Beaconsfield were in dominant mood as they beat ninth placed Stow-on-the-Wold 35-12 to move just a point behind second placed Reading Abbey.
