A Kickboxing starlet from Ibstone won the highly coveted Fighter of the Year award on Sunday.

Travis Ludlow, 12, picked up the award in recognition of what has been a fantastic year of personal achievement and competition.

He was presented with his prize by coach, Peter Edwards, and Sifu Robin Adams.

Edwards, who is a former European and World Champion, is responsible for the bulk of Ludlow’s training at Marlow’s South East Academy of Martial Arts.

After attaining his black belt in 2014, the Great Marlow School student has gone on to win at multiple tournaments including the British Championships, and National Championships.

The youngster, who started kickboxing at the age of four, was called up to the WAKO GB team in April 2015 and won a bronze at the Junior European Open the following month.

Being so successful at his first event whet the year eight’s appetite and he welcomed more intense training to help sharpen his skills for future events.

It certainly worked and he has won numerous medals and belts since, including silver in the light contact division of the WKA National Championship. He added to this accolade at the same event with his first National Belt in the K1 discipline.

While Kickboxing obviously takes centre stage, Ludlow is a multi-talented athlete having competed at national level in motocross and in yearly triathlons.

Indeed, had his love of kickboxing not been so great he may well have enjoyed a successful motocross career.

While most people would be happy with such grand achievements in 2015 Ludlow is hoping to build on the memorable year in 2016.

He will be travelling to Hungary in the summer to train with the world renowned Kiraly kickboxing Club.

The experience will form an important part of his preparation for the WAKO World Championships that take place in Ireland next September.

Regardless of whether Wycombe’s answer to the Kung-fu kid comes away from that event with a medal or not, it is clear that the future is bright for Ludlow.
