The Bucks Squash League returned from its winter break at the weekend as teams across the county played their first games of 2016.

Wycombe Squash and Racket Club (WSRC) Firsts came up against Division One championship favourites Aylesbury Grammar School (AGS).

Both sides made multiple changes but it had little effect on the eventual outcome as AGS continued their fine form with a 15-8 win.

Gary Raw put AGS in control of proceedings with a 3-0 win over Simon Miller before Steve Burnett and Daren Withey played out a competitive match.

The WSRC captain fought back from 2-1 down to earn an impressive 3-2 victory over his opposite number.

Defeats for Ed Walker and Mike Hallett saw AGS clinch the bonus point before WSRC’s Tom Power ended the match with a consolation win over Alex Preston.

AGS Are now 30 points ahead of 2nd placed WSRC, and have a game in hand over Uxbridge and Gerrards Cross who are further back in the chasing pack.

Chesham Bois Mavericks, who lead Division Two, suffered a shock 19-5 defeat against Holmer Green Seconds.

That win allowed Holmer’s senior side to close the gap at the top of the table to 22 points after they beat Aylesbury Firsts 16-6.

Beaconsfield Bulls kept pace with the second placed side as they recorded a 17-8 win over Chesham 1879.

In an interclub match Wycombe Drifters beat Wycombe Nomads 16-8 thanks to wins from Jon Ould, Rob Wallace and Freddie Evans.

Holmer Green Thirds narrowly overcame Division Three leaders Buckingham by a scoreline of 16-11.

The victory owed much to the four bonus points secured by Green, in a result that sees them move to within six points of table topping Buckingham.

WSRC’s Fourths were comfortably beaten 16-7 by Rivets who move just a point behind Buckingham.
