Ben Smith is hoping to make a statement to the boxing world with a stylish win in his second professional bout tomorrow night.

The Super-Lightweight takes on Dan Carr in Bethnal Green and is looking to make it two wins from two in his fledgling professional career.

The 19-year-old is confident he will pick up a win against Carr and is hoping he can showcase a talent to match his confidence.

“I want to look good and prove a point to people that I am here to stay in the pro game,” explained Smith.

“The fight is about looking good and being consistent. I want to hit him with a big variety of shots and make a statement that I am ready to go further in the professional game.”

Smith, who picked up a points decision in his debut fight against Kristian Laight in October, will have little to fear against Friday night’s journeyman opponent.

Carr has just three wins in an 84 fight career, but does boast a strong chin, having gone the distance in all but one of his 79 defeats.

It is a fact that Smith is aware of and while he hopes to stop the 28-year-old he is happy to take a victory by whatever means it may come.

“He is not anywhere near my skill level. Without being big headed, he is not going to cause me any problems, but he has been in this game a long time,” Smith said.

“It is all about keeping my composure and sticking to the plan that I have, and if I do that I will win the fight.

“I don’t know if the knockout will come because he is a tough lad. He has only been stopped once so he is a difficult fighter to stop. A knockout would be brilliant, but if it comes it comes and if it doesn’t it doesn’t.”

Smith, who was in attendance at Villa Park for Wycombe’s FA Cup replay with Aston Villa, has grand ambitions for the future and remains confident in his ability to one day challenge for a world title.

He is however, aware that such goals start with small steps and is targeting 2016 as a foundation laying year where patience will be a virtue.

He explained: “I will take it step by step, but I am hoping to move up to six round fights by end of the year maybe even eight.

“It is not a problem if I am not ready for that but I will be twenty by the end of the year so hopefully I can push on.

“I am having six fights this year, one every two months, so it is going to be a busy year and it is time to knuckle down.

“I really think 2017 will be my year and that is when I want to move onto 10 round fights and possibly even start fishing for title fights.”

The second of those six fights is scheduled to take place in March and an opponent will be announced in due course.

Smith concluded by stating that the advice of his coaching team will be vital in deciding who he faces.
