Chesham United manager Andy Leese is targeting a return to winning ways when his side take on Frome Town tonight.

The Generals will be looking to move on from the 3-0 defeat against Poole which saw their eight game unbeaten run come to an end.

It was a result which disappointed Leese and he wants to see his players get back on a positive run of form as soon as possible.

“We travel to Frome today looking to erase Saturday’s performance. We never really turned up, and you cannot do that against a champions elect team,” Leese told the club website.

“We didn’t defend set pieces well which is unlike us, and we didn’t do enough in the last third of the pitch. It was a disappointing way to end a great run of form.

“We have to get on another one tonight. Frome have been in great form as well.”

Tonight’s match will be the fourth time the sides have played this season and Chesham can take heart from a run of two wins and a draw against Frome.

Their last league meeting saw the Generals come away with a resounding 5-1 win at the Meadow in August.

A similar result tonight would see Chesham climb to 11th in the Southern Premier Division and would represent a positive step towards a strong end to the season.

With games in hand over all but one of the teams above them, Leese believes there is ample opportunity for his side to climb the table considerably between now and the end of the season.

He said: “We will not let this season drift and I have tasked the players with a top eight finish. A tall order but one we can achieve.”

Frome’s form has been excellent of late and Saturday’s defeat against Weymouth ended a run of eight games without defeat which saw them take 20 points from a possible 24.

That run has allowed them to move well clear of the relegation zone, and it will be a tough test for Chesham to take all three points form a side three places below them in 17th in the league.
