A second half collapse saw Chesham United concede four goals in 18 minutes as they lost 5-1 against Hitchin Town on Monday.

The Generals trailed 1-0 at half-time before Hitchin, who are currently third in the Southern Premier Division, ran riot in the second.

Hitchin’s four goal blitz made it 5-0 heading into stoppage time before Matt Taylor grabbed a consolation strike for Chesham.

The result makes it four games in a row without victory for Andy Leese’s men as their league campaign threatens to reach an anticlimactic conclusion with four games left to play.

Chesham remain 15th in the league with games in hand over a number of the teams above them. They are comfortably clear of the relegation zone and solidifying their place in mid-table would seem to be the most they can hope to achieve.

A trip to 19th placed St Neots Town on Saturday represents a good chance for Chesham to bounce back from the loss, and they will surely hope to beat a team they won 3-1 against earlier in the season.

Beyond the league campaign, a Berks & Bucks Senior Cup final against Windsor FC on Monday, 2 May represents the best chance for Chesham to end an eventful season on a high.
