Wycombe Wanderers Ladies earned a positive point against Southern Region First Division Northern leaders Chesham United on Sunday.

The 1-1 draw against their local rivals offered further evidence of the ease with which Wanderers have adapted to life in the division having gained promotion last season.

They are comfortably in mid-table but headed into Sunday’s match as underdogs against a Chesham side who had won on 11 of their previous 14 outings.

However, Wanderers stood up to the task excellently and came away with a thoroughly deserved point which sets them up well for their final match of the season on Sunday, 1 May.

It could prove to be an equally testing match for Wanderers as they travel to take on second placed Southampton Women.

The Saints still harbour serious ambitions of being crowned champions as they are just one point behind Chesham having played two games fewer.

Recent history would suggest that Southampton will not have it all their own way though, as they only narrowly beat Wycombe 3-2 when the sides last met less than a fortnight ago.
