High Wycombe Baby Belles fell to a crushing defeat as Berkshire Baa Baas secured a last gasp 28-27 win on Sunday.

The under-15 side made an unusually slow start to the match and conceded a try under the posts after turning the ball over deep in their own half.

The try seemed to spark the Belles into life and some excellent play from their backs put Ella Whitaker over for a simple score.

Melody Czakan’s successful conversion levelled the scores before Berks’s strong running game allowed them to add two more tries.

Again the Belles refused to give up though and another try from Whitaker brought them back into contention.

Sasha Edhouse and Seren Pepperall then both touched down to give Wycombe a 27-21 lead heading into the final few minutes.

With Berks pushing forward at will the Belles’ defence was being tested to its limits as their opponent’s strong pack began to dominate possession.

Their resilience finally broke in almost the last play of the game as Berks drove over and kicked a simple conversion to secure the narrowest of victories.
