Chesham and Ley Hill Golf Club’s Ladies Team are celebrating after retaining the Soden Shield in a nerve-racking encounter.

The Soden Shield sees the club’s men and women’s teams face off against each other.

A full day’s play produced what proved to be an incredibly tight match as neither side could be separated on five and a half points after 18 holes.

The tie meant ladies captain, Philomena Lockyer, and club captain, Trevor Bingham, played a hole by hole sudden death play-off to decide who would lift the trophy.

By now the pair were not only doing battle with each other but also the decidedly poor weather conditions.

Lockyer managed to overcome the elements though as she produced a perfect drive down the hole one fairway from her opening shot.

By contrast Bingham’s drive was caught by a strong wind and landed in the rough, forcing him to play a fine recovery shot.

His effort took him to the edge of the green and gave him the slimmest of chances of making a comeback from his shaky opening.

Again though, Lockyer kept her cool and putted excellently after finding the green to maintain her lead and claim the title for her side.
