Christian Wade equalled the record for most tries scored in a Premiership rugby match as he went over six times for Wasps against Worcester on Saturday.

The England winger, who is from the High Wycombe area and attended the Royal Grammar School as a student, ran in the tries in a 54-35 win which takes Wasps to second in the league.

His haul of tries made him only the second player in Premiership history to score four tries in the first half of a match and he also brought up his 50th club try.

It was an achievement Wade was understandably delighted with and he admitted the memories would stick with him.

He told the Telegraph: “I am over the moon for getting six tries and my 100th game as well.

“I will remember this game for the rest of my life but I will give credit to the rest of the boys because most of those tries were just run-ins. I used my speed to get there and dot the ball down.”

The 24-year-old is now second in the top try scorer standings for the league and his performance led Wasps director of rugby, Dai Young, to suggest Wade could once again be involved with the national set-up.

“He’s up there with the very best and I wouldn’t swap him for anyone,” Young told the BBC.

“It was a timely reminder from him that he’s still about and shouldn’t be forgotten for either the Saxons or England tours this summer.”

Wade, of course, lit up Adams Park between 2011 and 2014 before Wasps made the move to Coventry’s Ricoh Arena.

The original record was set by Saracen’s Ryan Constable 16 years ago and Wade’s fine individual display was the ideal way to mark his 100th appearance for the club.

He has been touted as having a strong chance of representing Great Britain’s sevens team at the 2016 Olympics and received the backing of Chris Ashton to do so after his performance.

The Saracens and England Winger said: “He is amazing at sevens because he is so jinky and so quick. He’s impossible to defend [against].

“I’m sure he is thinking about Rio – and if I was him I would be too.”
