Chesham Stags Under-16s held their nerve to beat Bletchley 8-7 and win the Bucks Plate final.

The victory makes them the second junior Chesham side to win a County rugby competition this season.

The match was decided by the narrowest of margins as both teams created a number of chances but failed to take full advantage.

After an incredibly tight first half, Luke Bouchier had scored the only points of the game as he kicked a penalty to give the Stags a 3-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw Bletchley start at a quicker pace and they managed to turn their territory into points as they drove over to take a 7-5 lead.

The Stags reacted well to going behind but the final pass was lacking time after time as they squandered a number of chances from inside their opponents 22.

With five minutes remaining there persistence finally paid off as the ball broke loose from a scrum on the Beltchley five metre line.

Scrum half, George Pettifer, reacted quickest to the chance and touched down to give Chesham a dramatic late victory.

The success means the under-16s become the first Stags side to retain the Bucks Plate across the age band.

The weekend produced further glory for the club as the under-11s were crowned champions at the Saracens Festival.

Having drawn the final against Sevenoaks the two sides opted to share the trophy, which Chesham have now won for two of the last three years.

Elsewhere, the Chesham under-18 girls took on a combined Buckingham and Harpenden side and picked up a stunning 84-7 victory.
