Chesham Cricket Club claimed the local bragging rights as they recorded a six wicket victory over Amersham in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

The hosts got off to a fine start as Jack McIver removed the dangerous Bruce Frederichs for a duck after Amersham had elected to bat first.

Brothers Rob and Andy Viney set about steadying the Amersham ship with respective scores of 36 and 43 and Luke Flemming added 33.

The trios’ scores formed the spine of Amersham’s batting effort as they posted 194-8 from their 45 overs.

McIver proved to be Chesham’s most prolific bowler with figures of 3-41 while debutants Gift Kwatsha and Pip Francis both took their first wickets for the club.

Chesham’s reply was emphatic as they eased to their target with seven overs to spare. Much like Amersham, Chesham’s batting was underpinned by two brothers.

Matt Rance (69) and his brother Jason (53 not out) did the bulk of the running while Max McIver also contributed with a useful 27 not out.

A good day for Chesham got even better when their second XI beat Amersham’s Seconds by 66 runs.

After struggling to a total of 161 for 8, thanks largely to the efforts of Peter Clifford (48) and Matt Watson (36), Chesham’s bowlers came into their own.

Duncan Ward was particularly impressive as he took 4 for 28 as Amersham collapsed to a meagre 95 in defeat.

If Saturday provided Chesham with a feast, Sunday would prove to be a famine as they suffered a defeat in the ECB National Cup against Richmond.

Matt Rance’s 60 and Mark Eteen’s 39 were the top scores in Chesham’s total of 220 all out from 44 overs.

The score appeared to be competitive at first but a hugely impressive Richmond side could not be halted as they knocked off the target in just 37 overs.

They lost only two wickets during their reply and Kshitij Desai scored an unbeaten 141 in the dominant batting display.
