Jason Harrison claimed 4-41 as Beaconsfield started life in Division 2B of the Thames Valley Cricket League with a six wicket win over Burnham Seconds.

Having been relegated last season, Beaconsfield are looking to bounce back up to Division One at the first time of asking.

Burnham finished fourth in last year’s competition and it promised to be an intriguing season opener as both sides looked to show they have the capability to compete at the top of the Division.

Burnham batted first and appeared well set as opening pair Adnan Javid and Fahad Raja made starts to reach 40 and 35 respectively before getting out.

Harrison would then come into his own as he dismissed Shahid Nadeem, Waqar Ahmed and Mohammed Asif (all bowled) and Obaid Sarwar caught behind to help limit Burnham to 185-9.

Nilesh Odedra (2-53) and James Randall (2-15) also took wickets while Ross Richardson grabbed a run out for Beaconsfield.

The Beaconsfield response was largely underpinned by the efforts of Chris Thomas, who scored a classy 54 before being caught off the bowling of Naveed Bashir, and David Heavyside who finished unbeaten on 48.

Harrison was the only other Beaconsfield batsman to make any sort of serious contribution as he scored 31 before being trapped in front by Bashir.

The Beaconsfield response was superbly measured though and they reached their target with relative ease from only 40 overs.

They will look to build on the success of the opening weekend when they take on Thatcham Town at home on Saturday.
