An injury hit Marlow Cricket Club were powerless to resist Chesham as their search for a first win of the Thames Valley Division One campaign went on.

On a pristine Meadow wicket the visitors elected to bat but were soon in trouble as they lost their first wicket for just 14 in the sixth over.

The breakthrough gave Chesham a clear lift and they set about dismantling the Marlow batting order with wickets at regular intervals.

A fourth wicket stand of 34 between Graham Paskin (25) and Kevin Hudson (16) provided brief respite, but the Marlow tail would still need to wag at a considerable rate of knots if they were to post a competitive score.

Instead they produced a limp effort and only Cam Denton, who scored 16 with some powerful stroke play, reached double figures.

Pip France has made an excellent start to the season and again looked sharp as he led the Chesham bowling attack with 4-20.

Umar Aslam (2-8) and Max McIver (2-30) also contributed well with the ball as Marlow were dismissed for 113.

A wicket in the first over of Chesham’s response gave Marlow the briefest of sniffs of a comeback which would never materialise.

In fact, Chesham would see out their chase with no further loses as Matt and Jason Rance scored unbeaten half centuries to take their side to victory in the 17th over.

The result means Chesham find themselves at the top of the table after two matches whereas Marlow have dropped into the relegation zone.

Saturday sees an unbeaten Chesham travel to Windsor while Marlow host Stoke Green in their next match.
