Team IHG Rewards Club driver Jack Goff kept his hopes of challenging for the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) alive with a strong display at Croft Park.

The High Wycombe racer, 25, claimed two fourths and a ninth place finish at the event in North Yorkshire where he matched his best result for the season.

Goff now finds himself in fifth place heading into the BTCC’s summer break and he was understandably pleased with his current standing.

“It’s been a good weekend for myself and Team IHG Rewards Club. I’ve equalled my best points haul of the season, moved up three places to fifth in the championship and closed the gap to the championship lead,” he said.

His positive return of points from Croft Park leaves Goff just 38 points behind championship leader Sam Tordoff with five races remaining.

Goff’s return of points was made all the more impressive by the manner in which he dealt with changing weather conditions and collisions on the track.

He produced winning pace throughout the weekend’s two opening races, and was unlucky to slip from the top three after a crash occurred in front of him in the second race.

He then battled with a rain-soaked track in the final event of the meet and was happy with his performance, despite being slightly disappointed by his final results.

He said: “In the second race I was lying third and unfortunately had to brake to avoid the leaders when they crashed into each other and ended up losing a place.

“I’ve never raced a rear-wheel drive touring car in the wet so ninth was OK in the final race, and has definitely given me a lot of learnings for next time.”

The personal success for Goff translated into his team climbing to sixth in the Teams’ Championship, and they are now the number one ranked single-car team in this week’s BTCC.

Tom Ingram also enjoyed a decent weekend at Croft with third, seventh and ninth placed finishes, which leaves him seven points behind Goff in sixth in the championship standings.

The BTCC returns on the weekend commencing Saturday, July 30 when competitors travel to Snetterton in Norfolk.
