Gerrards Cross stormed to victory over Thame Town on Saturday to give their Home Counties Premier League Division Two season a much needed shot in the arm.

The eight-wicket win was secured with minimum fuss as Thame struggled to deal with an inspired Cross bowling attack.

The twin threats of Dan Hampton (3-34) and Jon Denning (2-27) ensured the visitors never got off the ground.

Both bowlers made early inroads to reduce their opponents to 34-4, a position they would never recover from.

Will Sutcliffe’s 27 gave Thame some semblance of stability, but the game was up when he was trapped in front by Richard Knudson (2-23).

Honey Garg (26) was the only other Town player to make it into double figures as they crumbled to 88 all out in the 31st over.

Cross were in no mood to hang around in response and openers AJ woodland (32) and Matt Watson (44) set the foundations for a commanding win.

They were dismissed by Adam Phippen (1-10) and Michael Higgs (1-20) in quick succession, but with Cross cruising on 84 it was left to Billy Hunt to knock off the winning runs.

The chase took just 19.3 overs and leaves Cross eighth in Division Two ahead of a match against league leaders Horspath on Saturday.
