Amersham rider Jemma Wenman produced a fine display to qualify for the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) at the Bury Farm Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire.

Wenman, 20, rode Diamond Rambler to top spot in the working hunter class at the SEIB Insurance Broker’s Search for a Star qualifier.

The success was Wenman’s second in the series after she guided Diamond Rambler to second at Houghton Hall and she was delighted with the results.

“Qualifying for HOYS is amazing and very exciting, but he [Diamond Rambler] is very chilled about it,” Wenman said.

“He loves to show off and likes having his photo taken,” she added. “I love showing. I am a bit of a perfectionist and I love that side of things.”

Wenman has owned the 17.1 hand high bright bay gelding since February and the pair have developed a strong bond which has yielded almost immediate success.

She will now look to match her performances in the Search for a Star final, which takes place at the HOYS between Wednesday, October 5 and Saturday, October 9 at the Birmingham NEC.

The series was created by SEIB to encourage amateur riders to produce horses which are capable of competing in high-standard show situations.

SEIB marketing manager Nicolina MacKenzie explained the impact the events can have in helping both riders and horses develop their talents.

She said: “The Search for a Star Championship series is a way to give amateur riders the chance to achieve their dream of riding at the HOYS.

“The standard increases every year and we are delighted to give so many riders this opportunity.”
