High Wycombe experienced a frustrating weekend in both league and cup competitions as they dropped points in their title pursuit and exited the T20 national competition.

On Saturday they took on fellow Home Counties Premier League Division One high-flyers Banbury and could only play out a draw.

The result sees them slip 49 points behind league leaders Finchampstead and could well have ended their hopes of retaining the trophy with four games to play.

The match saw Burnham bat first and, despite being reduced to 54-4, they managed to post an imposing 309 all out.

Their score owed much to the quality of their eighth and ninth batsmen as Raminder Singh and Adnan Malik scored 74 and 67 not out respectively.

Without their contributions Wycombe would have fancied their chances of winning, and the late salvo made for a trying spell for their bowling attack.

Uzair Amjaid was by far the most potent of the Wycombe attack and claimed 5-91, while Cameron Parsons (1-46), Jonathan Burden (1-47) and Xavier Owen (1-52) also struck.

In response Gavin Baker gave Wycombe the ideal platform to chase down Burnham’s total with a superb score of 136.

His knock came at a rate of almost a run a ball and included 22 fours as he reached a level of performance his team could not match.

David Cranfield-Thompson was the only other Wycombe man to build up a head of steam and made 41.

His score helped settle Wycombe down and they closed out their innings on 261-8 to earn a share of the spoils.

Malik (3-42) was comfortably Burnham’s most effective bowler and was supported by Aftab Khan (1-45), Sulaiman Javed (1-55) and Muhammad Haroon (1-80).

Wycombe had the chance to lift their spirits a day later when they took on Radlett in the area finals of the National Club T20 Cup.

They failed to contend with a dominant Radlett batting line up, however, and eventually fell to an 18-run defeat.

Things looked ominous from the outset as Radlett won the toss and made immediate headway having elected to bat first.

An unbeaten 95 from Fraser Crawford appeared to justify the decision before Kabir Toor added 48 to help Radlett to 204-2 from their 20 overs.

With the wicket looking to favour the batsmen, Wycombe still had a chance at claiming a spot in the regional final at Cobden Hill with victory.

Garth Davson (78) made the biggest impact with the bat, but failures elsewhere left Wycombe short of their total and Alan Duncan (28 not out) was their next highest scorer.

Eventually the home side’s chase ran out of momentum and they could not force the much coveted win.

Fakir Dungaria was the main threat with the ball for Radlett and took 3-30 from his four overs, while Michael Lee chipped in with 2-29.
