High Wycombe snooker player Matt Wilson made history in the Thames valley Snooker League (TVSL) Scratch Singles League as he recorded the competition’s first ever 147 break.

Wilson’s maximum came in the group stage of the competition and helped maintain his position at the top of the table with two matches remaining.

The break, which he achieved at the Wycombe Liberal Club against Doug Smith, saw him break his own record of 145 which he made in 2008.

Having won the competition on four occasions between 2008 and 2014, Wilson will harbour every confidence of going on to repeat the feat this year.

He also made it to the final in 2011, 2013 and 2015 in a competition which sees players play without handicaps.

The rule results in the top players in the area reaching the latter stages on a regular basis and ex-professionals often take part.

Wilson is no stranger to making big scores and led Wycombe Liberal A to the TVSL team title in April with four century breaks.

He has made more than 400 century breaks to date, played at semi-professional level and represented the England Amateur Men’s team in 2008.
