Team GB’s women’s hockey side advanced to the semi-finals of the Rio 2016 Olympics with a commanding 3-1 win over Spain yesterday.

Marlow’s Alex Danson played an important role in the triumph as she laid on the assist for Lily Owsley’s third goal after Georgie Twigg and Helen Richardson-Walsh had made it 2-0.

The victory sets up a last four clash against New Zealand, who Britain beat to claim bronze at London 2012, tomorrow.

Danny Kerry’s side have been in imperious form to maintain a 100 per cent record throughout the tournament.

Should GB progress to the final, they will face either Germany or the Netherlands after they overcame USA and Argentina respectively.
