Chesham CC are Thames Valley League Division One champions for the first time in their history.

Their match against Boyne Hill proved to be inconsequential in the final league standards as the weather caused widespread abandonments across the division.

Chesham’s fixture fell victim to the weather and they finished the campaign on top of the table after closest rivals, Stoke Green, also failed to complete their match.

They had given themselves every chance of securing victory after dismissing Boyne for 211 but were not allowed the chance to chase their opponents down.

Umar Aslam (3-40) and Asad Rahman (3-47) were Chesham’s key men with the ball, while Jason Rance (1-24), Nouman Aslam (1-28), Gift Kwatsha (1-32) and Pip France (1-36) also struck.

Chesham were then left with an anxious wait to discover the outcome of Green’s match against Falkland to find out if they would be crowned champions.

News soon filtered through that their rivals match had also fallen victim to the weather and Chesham could celebrate their ascension to the Home Counties Premier League Division Two.

They had done so by the narrowest of margins as both sides finished the campaign on 308 points, but Chesham took top spot by virtue of winning more matches.
