A YOUNG athlete from Marlow performed admirably at the European Cross Country Championship in Sardinia last Sunday, winning the silver medal as part of her Great Britain team.

Pippa Woolven, 23, who trains with the Wycombe Phoenix Harriers, finished 16th out of the 72 competitors in Chia.
Woolven was part of a team of six Great Britain (GB) athletes and the scores of the first four went towards the overall total and team GB came second and claimed a superb silver.

The 23-year-old was the fourth GB athlete across the line so her score counted towards the total.
The race was completely dominated by two Kenyan athletes who had recently switched countries in 2015 and so were now running for Turkey.

Steff Twell came sixth for GB and is returning to top form following an ankle break a couple of years ago and Gemma Steel 12th, Woolven and Katrina Wooten came 16th and 17th respectively.  The other two GB athletes came much further down the field.
