After last week’s agonising defeat to Marlow, Wycombe suffered another tough loss to local rivals, going down 41-10 to Aylesbury away.
Wycombe made an encouraging start on Aylesbury’s new 4G surface and were awarded a couple of penalties in the first five minutes of the match.
From an Aylesbury overthrow at the lineout, Ayrton Hooker gathered the ball and made a strong run deep into the Aylesbury twenty-two and was only stopped five metres short of the try line.
After several phases of play Aylesbury, Matt Wardle evaded a couple of tackles to score in the corner which was unconverted to make it 5-0 to the visitors.
The home side came back into it and took a quick penalty and their lively winger scored in the corner to make it 5-5.
Aylesbury then got into the ascendancy and forged ahead to go in at half-time 17-5 ahead.
The second half didn’t start well for Wycombe and from a scrum penalty Aylesbury secured the ball from the lineout to make it 22-5 and hammer a final nail into the visitors’ coffin.
The visitors were becoming scrappy and missed a number of tackles as the home side scored two more tries, with one converted to make it 34-5.
Ian Burnham then assisted Rob Morgan for a consolation to make it 34-10 before Aylesbury scored a converted try at the death to seal a big victory.
