Alex Fores secured a brilliant finish at Donington in a Formula Three event at the iconic venue.

The 17-year-old got the invitation at the last minute thanks to his results the previous weekend in a Formula Ford event

It was so last minute that testing at Donington was full so Fores had to make do with testing at Silverstone.

This went better than could have expected having never driven anything with so much aerodynamic downforce and power he managed to set a time three/tenths of a second under the lap record to the complete amazement of the team.

The signs were looking good for Fores as he headed to Donington but qualifying proved to be a frustration with slower cars managing to corrupt Fores’ best lap by six seconds.

In race one it was frustration again. A start line issue dropped Alex to 13th but with a determined fight back he managed to to claw his way back into third, inches behind second, when in that same lap someone crashed, bringing the red flags out to signal the end of the race. The rules then mean the actual result is declared on the previous full lap where Alex was classified fourth but one man lap could have seen second as a possibility.

Race two saw Alex miss out on third by a small margin thanks to an unfortunate gear selection issue.

However, with everything against him in the third race, including a wet track and unsuitable tyres, Fores finished third at the end of a tough fight with the current Formula Three champion to round off a brilliant weekend for the promising driver.
