Tyrrell Hatton's friend and former coach is adamant that the world number 17 will win at least one Major Championship in his career.

Jon Jones, professional at Harleyford Golf Club, taught Hatton in his teenage years and still plays golf regularly with the 26-year-old when he comes back to Britain.

Hatton has won the last two tournaments on the European Tour, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the Italian Open, in some style.

His win on Sunday, after a dramatic birdie on the last to win it, propelled him to 17 in the world and his success has come as no surprise to Jones.

He said: "It was a fantastic performance to win in Italy. Holing that putt to win by a shot after the week before, where he won comfortably, was fantastic.

"He can definitely win a Major. He will win one at some point. The Open could be his best chance as he seems to play well in links courses.

"However, I think if he wins one then he could go on and win a few more. He has the game to play on all types of courses and that will stand him in good stead."

Another landmark event on the horizon could be a maiden Ryder Cup appearance next year in Paris.

Jones thinks his protege will take to it like a duck to water, adding: "It would be fantastic to see him play for Europe.

"He definitely has the right frame of mind to play for us and obviously he has the game as well."
