Risborough Rangers thumped Langford 5-0 last weekend with an dominant display from start to finish.

From the first whistle Rangers were on the attack and the only real surprise was that it took until the 33rd minute to open the scoring and it was rather fortuitous when it happened.

A wide free kick from Lawrence Clarke was swung in toward the near post. The ball flicked off of a Langford defender when challenged by Rangers’ Kevin Mealor and deflected past the Langford keeper.

It was no more than Rangers deserved and they doubled their lead two minutes later when Mealor again was involved. His turn and shot was parried by the keeper and Martin Griggs reacted fastest to the rebound to slam the ball into the roof of the net from an acute angle. Three minutes later and it was 3-0 after Mealor set up Clarke to score with a good finish.

Langford improved after the break and had a short spell of possession but rarely troubled the defence of Newton, Gordon and Harrison who were in fine form.

It wasn’t long before Rangers reasserted their authority on the game again and with young Marcus Wiley, Griggs and Mealor a constant threat, Langford were once again under pressure.

With James Shrimpton and Gary Rymer probing down the flanks and Asher Yearwood edging further forward it seemed just a matter of time before they extended their lead but they were frustrated by some stubborn defending by the visitors. The breakthrough came following the sending off of the Langford skipper for a second yellow card.

In the 82nd minute, a Rangers corner was only cleared as far as new signing Ollie Lynch, who made an impressive debut coming on after half-time. Lynch headed the ball back into the area and Shrimpton was rewarded for all his hard work when he turned and volleyed into the roof of the net.

Griggs wrapped it up with his second of the match and twelfth of the season with an unstoppable strike. There was still time for substitute Luke Hurley to get in on the act but he delayed his shot which was blocked.

It was a terrific team performance that sent the fans home very happy.
