Tyrrell Hatton rounded off a terrific 2017 with a joint eighth finish at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, the last event on the European Tour.

After a slow start, Hatton came to life in the second round with a nine under 63, which saw him surge up to second.

However, the 26-year-old eventually finished three shots behind eventual winner, Jon Rahm, who won with a score of -19.

The eighth place finish ensured Hatton moved up to 16th in the world and in the process he finished fitfh on the Race to Dubai, the competition to see who can become Europe's number one at the end of the season.

That honour went to England's Tommy Fleetwood who just held off Justin Rose to be crowned champion.

Hatton tweeted: "Happy to have finished fifth in the Race to Dubai. Also congrats @TommyFleetwood1 @FinoEFC on an incredible year."
