Beaconsfield Town have been promoted to the Evo-Stik Premier Division after a 4-0 demolition of Dunstable at Holloways Park.

The Rams put Saturday’s disappointing defeat to Hayes & Yeading behind them and quickly set about their opponents, allowing them little time on the ball and probing for an early break through.

That came in the ninth minute when some good build up play down the right wing saw the ball fed to Tony Mendy who fired across the face of Jamie Head’s goal to put The Rams one up.

One became two on 18 minutes when a cross from the left was met by The OD’s Danny Murphy who’s header wrong footed Head and bounced in to the unguarded net.

Reece Yorke then put a header just over on 20 minutes and Jerome Ecclestone sent a shot just wide two minutes later as The Rams totally dominated their opponents who only had a 32nd minute shot by Jermaine Hall to show for their efforts.

The points were effectively sealed on 38 minutes when Baj Pashaj jinked past a couple of defenders and pulled the ball back for Mendy to slot past Head, three nil to The Rams.

The second period again saw Beaconsfield on top, Mendy searching for a hat-trick and seeing a 59th minute shot saved by Head. A fourth goal duly came on 70 minutes when a pinpoint long pass by Reece Yorke was met on the volley by Lee Barney and it flew past the startled keeper.

AFC Dunstable did see a 77th minute effort rebound off the post into the arms of (a generally untroubled) Brendan Hazlett whilst two minutes later Scott Cousins went on a  great run, traded passes with Andre Costa and skipped through two challenges to set up Alex Cathline who’s well hit shot was blocked on the line.

With Rushden winning at home to Aylesbury, The Rams were waiting on news from proceedings at Kempston, not helped by the fact that the game had kicked off fifteen minutes late.

When news finally came through of a defeat for Hartley Wintney the roar of delight from the Beaconsfield dressing room was indeed something to behold.
