Bucks suffered an agonising last-over defeat to Suffolk in their Unicorns KO Trophy second round tie at Ipswich School on Sunday.

Chasing the Bucks total of 191, the hosts won by three wickets with just two balls to spare to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Bucks performed near miracles to take the game to the bitter end after slumping to 94-7 after choosing to bat first.

They lost their first three wickets for four runs and were indebted to Shelvin Gumbs, who made 44 from 48 balls, and Garry Park for pulling the innings round.

However following a further collapse, the visitors were in dire straits at 94-7.

They were rescued by a superb eighth-wicket stand between wicket-keeper George Russell and skipper Tom Hampton, which doubled the score.

Hampton made 47 from 56 balls with one six and five fours, while Russell made 53 from 72 balls.

However, Bucks crucially left nearly four overs unused when last man Jon Burden was run out with the total on 191.

In reply, Suffolk looked in charge at 128-3, but the Bucks attack – in which spinner Uzair Amjaid shone – kept it tight and kept picking up wickets.

At 171-7 with overs running down, Bucks had a chance, but Suffolk lost no further wickets and got home with two balls to spare.

Scores: Bucks 191 (46.4 ovs, G Russell 53, T Hampton 47, S Gumbs 44, J Cantrell 3-21, A Ball 3-53), Suffolk 192-7 (49.4, D Batch 40, U Amjaid 2-32).
