WASPS second row Simon Shaw has been banned for two weeks for foul play while on British Lions duty and could now miss the start of Wasps' season.
He was cited for dangerous play during the British Lions’ 28-9 victory in the third Test against South Africa.
Shaw was caught kneeing Springboks scrum-half Fourie du Preez as a ruck formed towards the end of the first half of the match at Ellis Park.
The 37th minute incident was picked up at the time by the touch judge and referee and Shaw was given a yellow card.
If Shaw is found guilty, he could miss Wasps’ start to the Guinness Premiership season.
The 36-year-old is the second Lion to be cited on the tour to South Africa. Scotland forward Nathan Hines received a one-week ban for a dangerous tackle against the Emerging Springboks in Cape Town.
Shaw was sent off and banned for a similar offence in New Zealand in 2005 and that could count against him during his hearing in Johannesburg.
