TENNIS ace Simon Syed beat a former practice partner of Bjorn Borg to win a Vets Tournament at Gerrards Cross Lawn Tennis Club for the second year running.
Syed, who came into the event as the defending champion, only dropped four games in reaching the final of the over 45 category and although he was pushed hard by Swede Mats Eurenius, he emerged victorious 6-4, 6-3.
There was more local success for Toni Marchetti.
The third seed in the over 55 category went out in the last eight of that competition, but made amends by teaming up with Goran Sundh to reach the final of the doubles.
However, they went down 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to the top seeds, while another home player, Derek Baker, was beaten in the final of the over 65s doubles.
He and Michael Keat lost 6-1, 7-6, 6-7 to number one seeds Graham King and Thomas Peterson.
