CHESHAM United spent ten hours earning a point on Tuesday, but manager Andy Leese says he’s happy with the way things have been going lately after emerging from a recent dip.
After setting out at 4pm on Tuesday afternoon, they returned from Stourport Swifts at 2am with a 1-1 draw to show for their efforts.
Leese said: “Getting a point from a 240-mile roundtrip is not too bad.
“If either side was going to win it would have been us. We absolutely dominated the second half.
“We had two off the bar, two cleared off the line and their keeper made an excellent save from Darrell Cox in the last minute.”
Steve Wales scored the goal with a penalty after 20 minutes, adding to the two he scored in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Woodford United.
Leon Archer also scored in that game and Chesham are now up to second in the table.
Leese said: “We’ve played a game or two more than a few other teams, but this is not a position we’ve been in recently and we’d much rather have the points on the board than have to play catch-up games.
“We’ve got a very tough November and December so we’ve got to keep grinding out the points because we want to get to the turn of the year with 40 points. I’d be delighted with that.
“I think that’s averaging about two points a game and if you do that you’re on target.”
Chesham host Romulus tomorrow.
