JOSH Radvan was Britain’s top athlete at the European U19 Championships for Modern Pentathlon.
The Royal Grammar School student finished 13th out of more than 50 competitors at the 21-nation event in Varna, Bulgaria.
At one stage he was as high as seventh on the order after a brilliant fencing performance and solid swim.
And he looked to be on course to pick up a team medal as Great Britain found themselves in second position going into the combined run and shoot event.
But they were not able to hold onto their position and finished just outside of the team medals in fifth place.
While he was away he was awarded the Chiltern District Male Athlete award for 15 to 21 year olds.
His next targets are the Youth A World Championships to be held in Sweden in June and the World Biathle Championships in Dubai in September.
