ASTON Rowant CC don’t need any more motivation for tomorrow.

They host High Wycombe knowing a win will almost certainly keep them up and, at the same time, complete a first ever league double over their more renowned local rivals.

Rowant, who end their season at Henley, beat Wycombe at London Road in mid-season and added insult to injury by suggesting a lack of application from their hosts on the day.

This time though, the onus is on them.

Wycombe have won three times since the teams last met and although they still have relegation worries of their own, they are a different prospect to the shambolic unit they appeared to be in June.

Rowant captain Wesley Morrick said: “The further along you go the more nervous you get. To be safe it’s a must-win match for us.

“But all the other sides have tough teams to play as well so it’s a case of just getting as many points as possible and if we can win as well then great.”

With two matches left, the fixtures have been kind to Rowant – even if they do finish their season against Henley next weekend.

It’s unlikely Harpenden will get anything from the defending champions tomorrow, while Radlett’s trip to leaders Welwyn Garden City also looks good on paper for Rowant.

But to make it count they will need to play well against Wycombe, who have enjoyed an upsurge since the arrival of former England bowler Andrew Harris.

Morrick said: “I’m not jealous of them. We’re a small club punching above our weight and we’re happy to be that way.

“Our players have been here years and years and the first team has been together for about four or five seasons.

“Most of them are local lads and I wouldn’t change it in any way. We don’t have the resources to waste money on other players, but I’m not too interested in their affairs.

“The game at their place was played in a great spirit and I’m sure the game at our place will be too.”

Rowant are in decent form after drawing at Oxford last weekend, when Morrick took four wickets and Adam Cossins (55), Aaron Todd (35) and Chris Watling (27) did well in a low-scoring game.
