HIGH Wycombe CC ended their black and white year with their tails well and truly up after overpowering Tring Park at London Road on Saturday, ending up sixth in a season that was threatening to leave their fans cold in mid-summer.
After nine of 18 matches the team with three titles in the past ten years were still waiting for their first of 2010 and they were stone cold last in the table.
However, a storming second half of the season saw them collect more points and more wins than even champions Henley and Saturday’s convincing success over Park was an appropriate way to sign off.
And, as has been a feature of their dramatic revival, their big players led from the front.
Enjoying first use of the track, Matthew Gitsham’s innings of 111 not out, his highest of the year by some margin, was the mainstay of their 265-9 score and Irish international Pete Connell (5-40) drummed home the advantage with ball in hand as Tring were all out for 198.
