ANDY Powell scored on his Wasps debut in front of a record Twickenham crowd for a Double Header of 75,112, but the Welsh star wasn’t taken in by his personal triumph.

He said: “I know I should be really thrilled, but while scoring was a great start to my Wasps career, I’m disappointed we did not win as we had control of the game for crucial periods.”

However, his disappointment was tempered slightly by the grand occasion.

He said: “It’s an amazing experience, the Double Header, and you usually only play in front of 75,000 crowds at Test level.

“I think we left a win behind us there, but we’ll take all the positives from the performance."

Powell was not even due to play the match. He did not take part in either of the pre-season friendlies as he recovered from a quad injury. But John Hart dropped out, forcing Tony Hanks to throw in his latest signing.

Hanks said: “Pleased for Andy. It was week earlier than we planned and it was only a later injury to John Hart that brought him into the squad for this game.
