RECORDS are made to be broken and last weekend Wycombe’s swimmers obliged with a few shattering performances at the club’s annual open meet at Handy Cross Leisure Centre.

More than 50 swimming clubs from around the region converged for the event, but top honours went to homegrown talents Josie Searle and Danielle Kidd.

Ten-year-old Searle broke the seal by smashing her own club record to win gold in the 50m breastroke.

Her time of 42.08 was also an age-group record for the pool.

Meanwhile, Kidd set two club records in the 50m and 100m backstroke as Wycombe swam to 12 golds, 24 silvers and 21 bronzes.

Other fine performances came from George Longhurst, 13, and Luke Thomas, 14, in the boys 200m butterfly, while a number of siblings were also among the medals.

They were James and Izzy Baxter, Danielle and Francine Kidd, Lauren and Liam Jones and Ollie and Tom Ross.

The club’s younger swimmers also had a good weekend with nine-year-old Emily Gladding winning gold, three silvers and a bronze and Luke Brune also making the podium.

James Anstey, Sarah Collin, Isla Currie, Harry Engle, Natasha Garry, Beth Hurst, Dan Holbart, Josh Howard, Navisha Karunanayaka, Tom Lundy Sadd, Dan Manners, Cameron Roberts and Fiona Shaw were Wycombe’s other medalists.
