Cricketers top of the pile again
WYCOMBE CC are building a dynasty at London Road and club chairman Geoff Morgan says there is no end in sight.
Morgan saw the first team win their sixth title in the last 11 years last weekend and he insists their dominance can continue indefinately.
He said: “I wouldn’t say we’re going to win the league all the time, but I do think we’ll be challenging all the time.
“We build from within and in our fourth team on Saturday we had nine players aged 13-16.
“That ensures the club continues forward as a dynasty.
“We’ll strengthen if we have to and in a couple of weeks we’ll start building for next season.
“But a lot of clubs will go out and get a big overseas player – which is where I believe they fail. It might work for a year, but we’re not a one-club player.”
Wycombe won the Home Counties title on Saturday with a victory at Welwyn Garden City, when homegrown talent James Benning led the way with six wickets.
Morgan said: “It’s phenomenal. We put on a barrel of beer if all four of our our senior teams win and we put on a barrel of beer if the first team win the title.
“It was a double celebration. There’s 72 pints in a barrel, so it was a big night on Saturday.
“But it’s fantastic and is all part of the club being successful; we’re many teams, but we’re one club and I’m a very proud chairman.”
The first team though, are the flag bearers.
Morgan said: “Winning ten out of 14 matches is one hell of an achievement and the way they play cricket is fantastic.
“They go for the win. They attack other teams with bat and ball and put them under pressure.
“And they’re a fantastic set of lads too. It makes Wycombe proud.”
