High Wycombe U13s complete double
HIGH Wycombe U13s continued the feel-good factor at London Road by putting the bow on a league and cup double at the weekend.
They beat Division One North winners Great Brickhill thanks to a fine display from the bowlers.
Wycombe elected to bat first but might have been wondering why after they were reduced to 40-5.
However, Uzair Amjaid (23) and Yash Rastogi (21) helped stady the ship before the defining innings came from number eight batter Alex Colverd.
He added a crucial 27 at the bottom of the order to help Wycombe recover to a defendable score of 113 from their 20 overs.
And then it was the turn of the bowlers, and opening pair Alfie King and Yash Rastogi immediately turned the screw to restrict Great Brickhill to 30-2 from the first eight overs.
Uzair Amjaid and Jack Thetford kept up the pressure, and with the scoreboard hardly moving Great Brickhill suddenly found themselves needing nine an over.
They never got anywhere near it, and with Aashir Zaib inspirational in the field, taking catching and forcing run-outs, Great Brickhill only managed to claw their way up to 73.
Wycombe coach Andrew King: "Our top order batters didn't perform but thankfully we have strength in depth and the tail enders batted very well.
“We felt that any score over 100 would be defendable with the strength of our bowlers.
“The boys always complain about the amount of fielding and catching practice we do but today it really showed. Our fielding performance was fanstastic, especially Aashir's catch in the deep."
