Lambert's 100th game ends in goalless draw

PAUL Lambert marked his 100th game in charge of Wycombe with a goalless draw against fellow promotion chasers Stockport.

The Scotsman suffered his heaviest defeat as manager against today's opponents earlier in the season, losing 6-0.

But the game never looked like being that open with both sides seemingly happy with a draw.

The most interesting thing in the first half was the changing weather, which said a lot about the two teams performances.

It was snowing heavily at kick-off and the pitch was in a poor state, which might account for the disappointing first half.

It took until five minutes before half-time for either side to come close to scoring.

Stockport winger Anthony Pilkington deserved to put his side in front after twisting and turning on the edge of the box, but his curling right foot effort went just wide.

And Leon Knight should have done much better when he found himself free inside the box, but the former Chelsea man blazed his effort well over.

The first five minutes of the second-half showed more action than the whole of the first.

Scott McGleish looked destined to score when Gary Holt stood his cross up at the back post, but the Scotsman's goal-bound header was blocked by a covering defender.

Stockport then went straight up the other end and Wanderers needed the trailing leg of Frank Fielding to stop Pilkington's deflected shot going into the bottom corner.

On-loan midfielder Chris Herd failed to have an impact on the game after recent outstanding performances.

The 18-year-old Aston Villa starlet was taking off on the hour mark to make way for fans favourite Sergio Torres, who continues his rehabilitation after coming back from injury at the weekend win in Morecambe.

Wycombe may think themselves fortunate to have kept 11 men on the field when Fielding brought down Liam Dickinson outside the box when the striker seemed clean through.

But the goalkeeper only received a yellow card.

Wanderers piled on the pressure in the final ten minutes and Stefan Oakes looked to have scored his second free-kick in as many games.

But Stockport keeper John Ruddy was equal to his effort.
