WANDERERS midfielder Gary Holt could have played his last game for the club.

He feels so devastated by the departure of manager Paul Lambert that he said: "At the moment I don't want to stay."

Lambert, a former colleague of Holt's in the Scotland squad, immediately tried to talk the 35-year-old out of it and Holt's own wife also warned him to hold his breath.

Holt said: "Paul Lambert has told me not to be silly but when my mind is made up it's hard to change. I'm stubborn.

"If I was on a one-year contract there is no doubt that I would have gone there and then - but I have got another year to go.

"I ask myself can I have the enthusiasm to play for someone else here or would someone else want me.

"After losing in the play-off it's like one body blow after another.

"I find it all very hard to take. I believe as a club we didn't do enough to keep him.

"He got me here and he's the main reason I came. I have enjoyed it greatly and I believe he was the man who could have taken the club to the next level.

"It's mind-boggling that he's gone.

"I'm flabbergasted. I don't know what's gone on but it is not something that is going to lie easy with me. It's not one I'm comfortable with and I don't think I'm alone in these thoughts."

Holt stayed behind on Tuesday to let Blues managing director Steve Hayes know exactly what he thought and he didn't hold back.

He said: "I was tempted to be hot-headed but I'm a man not a boy so I'm not making any rash decisions, I will just see how things pan out.

"At the moment I can't see myself being happy here and I wonder how we are going to get back the spirit we had. But footballers are a fickle bunch and I will wait and see who comes in as manager, the new man might not even want me.

"I'm not going to down tools, that would be unprofessional but whether you want an unhappy Gary Holt about the place is another matter."
