Burnley to host official Olympic event

A TASTE of the London Olympics will be coming to Burnley this weekend.

The Weavers’ Triangle, in Sandygate Square, will become a hotbed of talent as it hosts the Project Triangle festival on Saturday.

Youth and community group Somewhereto are hosting the free event in partnership with Burnley Council and Mid Pennine Arts. The project focuses on regenerating disused spaces for young people and will welcome a variety of live performances, workshops and film premieres for all ages.

The disused Neptune Inn pub will be the venue for the film screenings.

Coun John Harbour, Burnley Council’s executive member for leisure and culture, said: “It’s a real honour for Burnley to be hosting an official London 2012 festival event, especially after hosting the Olympic Torch Relay a few weeks ago. We have the Olympic spirit here in Burnley, and I know that lots of young people from Burnley and the surrounding boroughs are going to have a great day out.”
