WASPS continued their fine recent form but it wasn't enough to earn them anything at a packed out Welford Road today as Leicester Tigers beat them 27-15.

Wasps scored the game's first try and when they went over again inside the final ten minutes they looked on course to come away with at least a bonus point.

Leicester ramped up the power to deny them that consolation, but Dai Young won't be too disheartened by what he's seen ahead of next week's rematch with Gloucester at Twickenham.

The black and golds came into the game in decent form but jolted by injuries to four of the team that started last weekend.

Joe Launchbury was also rested so into the team came Tommy Bell, Charlie Hayter, Charlie Davies, Tom Lindsay, Tom Palmer, Ed Jackson and Guy Thompson.

But despite the changes they made a bristling start and after kicking their first penalty to touch Andy Goode kicked their second between the uprights for a 3-0 lead after six minutes.

Manu Tuilagi crossed for Leicester from his second break of the game after 19 minutes, but Wasps responded by crossing the whitewash twice themselves in the next ten minutes.

They were denied from the first with the TMO ruling the ball had been held up, but Thompson's second counted and Goode's conversion put the visitors 10-7 in front after half an hour.

Had they held that lead until the interval, it might have been a different story.

But after nine minutes of resistance they were broken just seconds from the break when Vereniki Goveva just found room in the corner to touch down.

Tuilagi's second try and Leicester's third after 49 minutes stretched the lead to 19-10, and result was settled by Owen Williams' penalty with 15 minutes remaining.

Wasps did find the energy for one last act of defiance and were rewarded by sending Tommy Bell over in the corner.

But the conversion was missed and the losing bonus point was finally grasped away by David Mele's try two minutes from time.
