IF High Wycombe CC win their last three games they will probably end the season with more victories and fewer defeats than any other side in the Home Counties League; it still might not be enough to wrap up the title though.

In tight finishes, every point counts and the extra game they have lost to bad weather compared to the two teams above them could prove telling.

Captain Matthew Eyles said: “We’ve been unlucky with the weather this season. We’ve missed more games than anyone else in the region.

“That’s just the way it’s worked out and we need to win our last three games now.

“If we do that and still don’t win the league it would be a little ironic because I think we’d have won the most games and lost the least and it still wouldn’t be enough.

“But maybe the weather will still play a part before the season’s over.”

High Wycombe trail Henley, who they beat on Saturday, by 21 points.

They are 14 points behind Slough, who they play on the final day of the season, while Slough and Henley face off on Saturday.

Eyles said: “Ideally we’d like Slough to win that one. We’ve got them on the last weekend and that could end up being a title-decider.”

High Wycombe face Tring Park on Saturday.
