WASPS have confirmed they are looking for a new fly half after Scottish international Ruaridh Jackson tore his anterior cruciate ligament in last week’s win over Northampton Saints.

Jackson replaced Andy Goode in the second half and created both tries and landed both touchline conversions to secure a 20--16 triumph.

However, he collapsed in agony before the end of the match and Wasps confirmed on Tuesday that he faces six to nine months on the sidelines after tearing his ACL.

Director of rugby Dai Young said: “I really feel for him. It was a big call for him to come down here and he has really made an impact.

“He has impressed me during training, both with his skill level and his attitude, and it’s a real blow to lose him.

“Professional sport is cruel at times and this is certainly one of those times.”

Jackson was one of Wasps’ marquee signings during the summer, and his injury leaves the club threadbare at ten.

Andy Goode and Alex Lozowski are at opposite ends of their careers, while Rob Miller could also play fly half if called upon.

But Wasps have confirmed they will try to bring in a replacement for Jackson to increase the depth in such a pivotal position.

Young said: “We’re discussing whether it’s worth looking to bring someone else in and I think we’ll definitely dip our toe in the market to see who is about.

“We’re not going to bring in somebody just for the sake of it, but if we believe somebody is out there who could add to us and take a bit of the pressure off then we’ll look at it.

“It’s not an ideal time to be looking for ten, but we’ll certainly look and see if there is anybody out there who could come in and make an impact for us.”
