DAI Young has commended the fans for turning up in their numbers and getting behind Wasps after a trying week in the club's history.

A season high crowd of 7,397 converged on Adams Park for their clash with Bath, but while talks before were of protests there was hardly a dissenting voice among them.

Young said: "I wasn't surprised to be honest. One thing that has jumped out at me during my time here is how intelligent the fans are.

"Nobody could doubt how loyal they are and how passionate they are, and I totally understood their frustrations when the news came out.

"But when it was explained to them and that realistically there was no option, I thought they were intelligent enough to react in the right way and the right way was getting behind the team and I thought they were outstanding."

Young said talks of protests were largely media driven and that he'd seen a change in the supporters once the decision had been explained to them.

He said: "They turned up in their numbers and got behind the team. It's been a difficult week for them but they need to be commended and thanked.

"It was a bit raw in the early part of the week but when they got to understand the situation they really got behind the players.

"That was a performance not only for ourselves but for them as well."
