WASPS fly half Andy Goode says last Saturday's win over Stade Francais is the first real step in the rebuilding of Wasps.

Their 20-6 triumph completed a 50-35 aggregate win and secured their place in the Champions Cup next season alongside the best 20 teams in European club rugby.

Goode said: "This is huge for everyone at the club, from the people that have been fans for years and years to the new guys.

"I've only been here one year but we’ve been talking about rebuilding the club and this is the first step in terms of going forward and building our own history.

"Derek [Richardson], the owner, has been absolutely phenomenal in securing the club and also building for the future."

Wasps were in front for most of the two-legged tie despite having three tries disallowed, but they were still massive underdogs going to Paris with just a one point lead from their 30-29 home victory.

Goode said: "We backed ourselves. The coaches were very relaxed all week and to go into what was effectively a Grand Final just shows the confidence they've got in the squad and the ability we've got.

"Stade Francais are a great side and no one gave us a chance outside our camp. I think they left Adams Park very happy with a one-point defeat but we’ve come to France three times this season and won three times.

“It’s a massive privilege to pull on a Wasps shirt and we’re delighted to be back in the top tier."
